Always Chosen but Never Kept (Secret) 

If your sense of belonging and self-esteem have been thwarted, psychotherapy can help with the coping and eradication of the feelings and symptoms of heartache. Getting through this may feel like a roll coaster but you don’t have to go through this alone. 

Surrounding yourself with positive people who encourage you may help keep you grounded, as you fight loneliness or feeling scared. Moreover, avoid negative people who may judge or criticize you. This can worsen feelings of unhappiness and make it harder for you to battle your way through. Use your time to self-reflect and take ownership of the downturns that occurred during your relationship. In the appraisal stage, the question “was it me?” should be explored during the healing process as you simultaneously strive to become comfortable being by yourself. In addition, take the opportunity to evolve your sense of self and your choice in partner. This is a good time to put into perspective that choosing and the concept of being kept goes both ways. As much as there is a desire for someone to appeal to you in that way, you also retain the power to likewise choose and transition a relationship into a kept status. Humans have a fundamental need to belong, so increasing the awareness of when you leave a relationship is vital. The power of rejection is in your hands also.
